Conservation Domestique, Diploma Project 2020
This sculptural installation is part of the diploma project designed in collaboration with Cloé Sonnet, Estelle Carlon and Margot Bellotti.
Preventive conservation emerges from hiding and comes to light, in our homes. By applying it to our familiar and familial objects, we change our relationships with wear and inheritance. The objects we have gathered are common, somewhat worn, and sometimes evoke a somewhat outdated vocabulary. But they contain stories and evocations that urgently need to be magnified by the creation of new symbolic uses. They acquire a new identity through their inscription in aesthetic durability supported by a choice of specific materials: synthetic foams useful for conservation casings are transformed into plant materials, plastic expanses into natural fabrics…
The principles of packaging and covers, imprints, counter-forms and casings as well as strapping and storage identified in preventive conservation have guided the aesthetics of our productions and fueled reflection on new typologies of objects, new plastic categories, and new usage scenarios.
